Para comemorar um o 80º aniversário de um herói!
The brand-new ‘Autódromo Internacional do Algarve’ race circuit, finished late last year and now in its first full year of use, will play host to a very special race at the Algarve Historic Festival on October 16-18 2009.
British historic race organiser, Motor Racing Legends, will be running The Sir Stirling Moss Trophy in celebration of the famous racing driver’s 80th birthday year. The race, for 1950s sports cars, will also see Sir Stirling himself taking part – at the wheel of his own 1956 Osca FS 372 race car.
The Sir Stirling Moss Trophy will be a two-hour endurance race for either two or three drivers. Starting at 5pm on the Saturday of the Algarve Historic Festival, the race will run on into the evening dusk with the cars’ headlights ablaze.
“We were delighted when Sir Stirling allowed us to celebrate his 80th birthday year by naming a race after him – and, as you can imagine, we were even more thrilled when he entered the race himself, in his own car,” said Duncan Wiltshire, Chairman of Motor Racing Legends. “I think it will mean a great deal to the other competitors to be racing against such an undisputed hero, in a race which pays tribute to everything Sir Stirling stands for in the sport we all love.”
The Sir Stirling Moss Trophy will see genuine post-War sportscars and sports-racers of the 1950s in hot competition on the fabulous 2.9-mile race circuit in Portimão, Portugal. Although it has been in use for less than a year, the Algarve circuit is already gaining huge popularity with racers because of its roller-coaster changes in altitude, enticing mix of high-speed and technically tricky corners, plus a challenging series of blind summits – but with plenty of run-off to ensure that it’s not only thrilling for the drivers and spectators, but also surprisingly safe.
As well as the Sir Stirling Moss Trophy for post-War cars, Motor Racing Legends will also be running a race for pre-War sportscars, running in ‘proper’ road trim with wings and lights.
